Unfortunately,
Seattle Central Community College's hybrid motor was deemed not safe to
fire by ESRA officials. Instead, a cold flow test of the nitrous oxide
tank and plumbing was conducted:
ESRA
conducted a static firing of the "Tropos 2" sugar/nitrous oxide hybrid
motor as a demonstration. This 3"-diameter motor has a SCBA tank for
the nitrous tank, a motor-operated ball valve (automotive power window
motor), and in-house built motor case, injector, and nozzle. It
generates approximately 150 lbs peak thrust:
