Update 6/20/10: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Wins First Place at 5th IREC

The team from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, FL campus) won First Place in the Basic category at the 5th Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (5th IREC) held June 16-18, 2010, near Green River, Utah. Brigham Young University won Second Place, and California State University - Long Beach won the Jim Furfaro Award for Technical Excellence. Congratulations to the winners and all the participants in the competition--every team put in a huge amount of effort resulting in successful launches for all the teams. Due to technical problems, no launches were conducted in the Advanced Category (to 25,000 feet above ground level). More details will be posted soon.

Who We Are:

The Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA) promotes sounding rocketry through annual Intercollegiate Rocket Launch Competitions, Workshops, and K-12 outreach efforts, and in the future through public sounding rocket Expos and professional conferences.

By involving college students in the competitions and K-12 students in outreach efforts such as static firings of rocket motors, we hope to promote the study of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and to provide an experienced workforce for the future.
